Dance of the Branches
DANCE OF THE BRANCHES
2015
Before the fair I attended in London in 2015, news came that there would be a jewelry design competition. I decided to participate. We were asked to design jewelry on a specially laser-cut designer tourmaline stone. This unusually long rectangular stone had zigzags created on its inside using a special technology.
First of all, I focused on how this stone made me feel. When I looked at it carefully, I imagined the zigzags creating a dance effect within this hard texture, softening everything. Such a calm, silent and endless dance…
The first sketches I drew around this long rectangular stone reminded me of tree branches. I imagined dancing with tree branches. How should I carry this dance in my hand as a ring? This dance, which was harmonious and balanced, had to be functional. It had to be comfortable as if it were a natural part of my body, so that I could carry it all day long.
This is how the Dans of the Branches ring design began. After many sketches and trials, I achieved the form I wanted.
When the design I submitted was chosen as the winner, I was given this magnificent tourmaline stone as a prize. When I returned to my workshop in Istanbul, I brought this ring design to life using 3D modeling.
