KYBELE 

Double layered porcelain cup

Inspired by the blossoms of the Judas tree, a symbol of the Bosphorus, I designed these cups - but I must admit that they resemble the fertile curves of the Mother Goddess rather than a flower. At first I was drawn to the delicate details of the petals. However, after my initial design sketches, I was surprised to find that my prototypes took on a beautifully rounded shape. I welcomed this unexpected development as the soft curves evoked a sense of warmth and embrace.

The mother goddess figures of Anatolia, with their full hips and voluptuous forms, symbolise fertility and abundance. Growing up with an archaeologist father, I must have unconsciously absorbed these ancient images. This deep-rooted connection has found its way into my design, giving KYBELE a symbolic richness.

Creating KYBELE as a double-walled porcelain cup required extensive research. In our workshop, where craftsmanship plays a central role, we experimented with different techniques until we perfected the moulding process.
