Özlem Tuna is inspired by on the food culture, hospitality, nature and history of the geography where she lives in all the ideas and objects she designs. She blends traditional craftsmanship, which has been passed down from generation to generation for centuries in different regions of Istanbul and Anatolia, with modern production techniques. DESIGN
At Özlem Tuna Studio, we have been caring about respecting nature and all living things in all the products we design for 22 years. Our priority in design is to bring to life the ideas that we can produce with local materials and traditional production possibilities. We aim to question our daily cultural habits through our designs. We care about our designs being timeless and being used for many years.
JEWELRY AND PORCELAIN PRODUCTION
The porcelains and jewelry objects we design are produced in our workshop. We always try and learn different production methods and produce within a sustainable system. We mostly use casting technique in porcelain production. Since we use hand labor in every stage of production, each product is unique and one of a kind with small differences. Özlem Tuna does most of the metalwork in jewelry production.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
We collaborate with craftsmen who use traditional production methods that have been passed down from generation to generation for centuries in the historical center of Istanbul. We are aware that we undertake an important social responsibility by supporting the continuation of traditional production, which is our Intangible Cultural Heritage, and by creating new job opportunities for our craftsmen. We care about respecting the production techniques that have developed over hundreds of years in the Historical Peninsula and continuing to learn from them while adapting them to our designs.
